The Crims Chapel Volunteer Fire Department has purchased a new cutter and spreader through a grant from the Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program.

The tools will be placed on the department’s primary rescue unit, allowing the older set to be placed on another unit.

“With another set of tools, we will be able to run two separate calls, or use both on the same call if needed,” Fire Chief Marvin Vinson said. “The old set required long hoses and a power unit to operate, making it very cumbersome to use.”

As a member agency of the Texas A&M University System, the Texas A&M Forest Service administers the Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program and is committed to protecting lives, property and natural resources. The Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program is funded by the Texas Legislature and provides cost-share funding to rural volunteer fire departments for the acquisition of firefighting vehicles, fire and rescue equipment, protective clothing, dry hydrants, computer systems and firefighter training.

The Crims Chapel VFD is also recruiting new members. Interested parties should meet at the station. Meetings are held every first and third Monday of the month at 6 p.m.
